Is Jesus God? – Part 4 – Jesus Christ and the Attributes of God

Today in our discussion of the belief that Jesus is God we are going to look briefly at some of the attributes of Christ as God.

First, Jesus is described as the Creator. John 1:3 says, “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” Colossians 1:16 says, “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God is the creator of the universe, and Jesus is also spoken of as the one who created everything.

Secondly, Jesus is said to be the very picture of God. John 1:1 says “the Word [that is, Jesus] was God.” Hebrews 1:3 says, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.” And Colossians 1:15 says, “He is the image of the invisible God.”

Thirdly, prophecy about Jesus confirms his deity. Isaiah 9:6 says, “And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” The Messiah to come was to be God himself. This is the person Jesus Christ.

If these things were not true they would be blasphemy. But God’s Word, the Bible, attests through these and other attributes that Christ Jesus is in fact God in the flesh.
